Welcome to February's Essentially England News!

It's blowing and chilly out, but... we spotted the first snowdrops on our walk and even a few hardy daffodils not far from showing off their blooms. Spring is definitely on the way, even if it's taking its time.

If you've been following the news, you might have seen that Her Majesty the Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee today. She's been the head of this country for longer than both of us have been alive... and that is something worth contemplating.

I also imagine that Accession Day is a bittersweet kind of anniversary, linking a new beginning to the end of the previous reign and the loss of a loved one.

For the rest of the year, there'll be events all around the country to mark the Platinum Jubilee, and we'll tell you about those as we come across them.

Did you know there's a National Yorkshire Pudding Day? I didn't know until Steve pointed it out, but I think it's a great idea. Doesn't matter if you like your Yorkshires as a side to your roast dinner, filled to the brim as a main course, or even as your after dinner sweet... Yorkshire puddings can handle it all.
