It’s the Season to Be Jolly:

The Best Quirky Stocking Stuffers

and Secret Santa Gifts for England Lovers

My aunt was the Queen of Quirky Stocking Stuffers! Actually, she went far beyond that. She had a magpie mind for gifts. Whenever she went out, she was bound to come home with a little something or other that had caught her eye or reminded her of someone and which she carefully squirrelled away. For as long as I knew her, she hoarded boxes filled with small, quirky gifts, ready to wrap and deliver them whether it was gifting season, an unexpected event, or someone near her was in need of a treat. In her book, life was short and showing someone you thought of them was important.

As the festive season with its parties, lunches, and get-togethers draws nearer, many of us start to think about gift-giving. And the difficult bits are not the big items we plan to place under the tree, but the small, inexpensive gifts that are easy to overlook and often catch us out: hostess gifts, thank you gifts, Secret Santa gifts, and stocking stuffers.

In memory of my aunt, I’m here to help.

If you know someone who has a soft spot for all things English, whether it’s the history, the food, or the quirky customs, then you’re in for a treat. On this page, I’m aiming to assemble intriguing and downright quirky stocking stuffers and small gifts for the England lovers in your life. Whether you’re preparing for Christmas morning or a Secret Santa exchange, looking for the perfect hostess gift, or curating party favours, there’s a whole world of English-themed treasures waiting to be wrapped up.

Delicious Edible Treats

What’s more quintessentially English than a gift that indulges the tastebuds? Start with some classic English confectionery like fudge or biscuits. (English biscuits, not the ones served with sausage gravy!) These treats, with their buttery richness, will remind the England lover in your life of a traditional English holiday season.

Alternatively, help your loved one unwind with a proper English afternoon tea. Accompany your sweet treats with a beautifully presented box of loose leaf tea. You could choose blends like Earl Grey for with its fragrant citrusy notes, or opt for a traditional English Breakfast tea, perfect for dunking those buttery biscuits.

The beauty of these gifts is that they’re both thoughtful and easy to find, yet they convey a sense of old-world charm that’s unmistakably English.

A Nod to the Past

England is steeped in centuries of history and tradition, so why not choose quirky stocking stuffers or Secret Santa presents that play on England’s history or its famous landmarks?

A shadow play of the London Skyline makes a fabulous, inexpensive gift that will nevertheless delight its recipient, while a set of England-themed wine glass charms effortlessly adds a little English style to your holiday parties.

Etsy is filled with whimsical, quirky stocking stuffers and awesome Secret Santa gifts and I had hours of fun browsing the selection to find gifts I’d love to receive myself or gift to others. For a book or theatre lover, these bookmarks based on Shakespeare’s plays would make a wonderful gift.

Dreaming of an English Garden

English gardens have a reputation for elegance and lush abundance. And there’s nothing better for many England lovers to create their own to relax. If you have a green-thumbed England lover in your life, then how about treating them to one of these quirky stocking stuffers?

Humorous signs make great quirky stocking stuffers, whether your loved one is a gardener or not. Or how about these nifty grow bars from the Etsy store of the Gluttonous Gardener?  I promise you that choosing just one will be a hardship!

Personally, I vacillate between William Morris flowers, Tudor herbs, or growing plants our pet cat Tiger will enjoy… and I’ve barely started looking through their offering.

You could also tell someone you miss them, with this postcard-design scented cushion. In fact – this is very much a gift my aunt would have picked to cheer someone up. And the internet wasn’t really a thing while she was around.

Hint: all of these also make awesome Secret Santa presents or fabulous hostess gifts if you’re a guest at a Christmas party!

A Little Bit of Quirky English Charm

There’s no doubt that gifts received when not expected stay in the memory. As do gifts that are quirky and whimsical. are out of the common way. Sometimes it’s those little unusual gifts – a jar of English mustard, for example, London-themed Christmas tree decorations, a tea towel teaching ‘proper English’, or a vintage print of Paddington Bear - that leave the biggest impression.

If the England lover in your life has a sense of humour or is a fan of English whimsicality (is that a word?), then they’re bound to appreciate these quirky stocking stuffers.
